We find film fascinating. We like discussing production, editing, story, storyboarding, acting, directing, cinematography, film scores, trivia, history, fan service, fan theories, subtexts, big ideas; if it is part of film we like to discuss it. For us film is no different than literature can be discussed just as deeply, or shallowly. We have been discussing movies for years and want to invite you, the listener to join us. I'm Max. And I'm Jason. Welcome to the conversation.

Max And Jason Watch a Movie: Masters of the Universe
Tuesday Mar 09, 2021
Tuesday Mar 09, 2021
In this episode we discuss the strangely fascinating film, Masters of the Universe. Frank Langella and Dolph Lundgren star in a film that did no one but the critics any favors. Is it so bad it is good, or just bad? Or do questions of good and bad even apply with such art? We have opinions.
When you finish listening to us pontificate, you may want to watch Frank Langella reflect on his interpretation of one 80's cartoons greatest villains. Its about midway through the video.

Tuesday Feb 23, 2021
In this episode we discuss and review the 1967 western Hombre. Based on Elmore Leonard's first novel, this film was directed by Martin Ritt and starred the incomparable Paul Newman. Newman is hardly the only great actor in this complicated, nuanced film. The film also featured Richard Boone, Fredrich March, and Diane Cilento.
Enjoy the show.

Max And Jason Watch A Movie: The Wolf Man.
Tuesday Feb 16, 2021
Tuesday Feb 16, 2021
This week we discuss the 1941 Universal monster movie classic, The Wolf Man. This film was so popular it launched six more Universal Pictures Wolf Man films.
A couple of notes. During the discussion we talk at some length about an amazing series of books on cinema monsters. These are the Crestwood Publications "Monster" books. They were found in children's sections of libraries across the nation I presume and they were certainly in Morrison Reeves Library in my home town. They are long out of print now, but if you are lucky maybe you can find them in your local library even today for your kids.

One more note. Jason and I use the term "gypsy" in the podcast. We understand that there is some debate about the use of the word. But we followed the convention of the film, which doesn't appear to be used as a slur for the Romani people who are pivotal to the narrative of the film.

Furie, and stars Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, & Margot Kidder. Is it a masterpiece? Is it a disaster? Join us and find out.
