We find film fascinating. We like discussing production, editing, story, storyboarding, acting, directing, cinematography, film scores, trivia, history, fan service, fan theories, subtexts, big ideas; if it is part of film we like to discuss it. For us film is no different than literature can be discussed just as deeply, or shallowly. We have been discussing movies for years and want to invite you, the listener to join us. I'm Max. And I'm Jason. Welcome to the conversation.

Sunday Jun 26, 2022
Listeners! Its been another oddly uneventful eventful week. So the pod is late, and missing some hosts. That said, we should be back up and running our Dirty Harry analysis next week. In the meantime have listen to what I thought of some things I watched and tried to enjoy this week.
Topics to be covered are:
The Contractor, Chris Pine's latest thriller
Batman: The Long Halloween: Part One
Fear Street: 1994 (with some discussion of Fear Street: 1978 and the series generally)
Backström (the 2015 Rain Wilson interpretation)
Enjoy the disorganized analysis. Next week we analyze the second in the Dirty Harry series, Magnum Force. Give it a watch before we analyze it and let us know what you think.

Listeners! Sorry about the delay, but here is the promised second part of our Dirty Harry review/discussion/analysis. We talk all things Harry Callahan, the importance of actual location shooting, and we give our verdicts. Obviously spoilers abound. If spoilers spoil your good time at the movies, do watch the movie first. It is streaming on Netflix and the whole Dirty Harry series is up on HBOMax as of this writing.
Anya couldn't join us this week but will do a Tuesday Short in the near future and offer her final thoughts on the film.
Next week we cover the second installment of the Harry Callahan franchise, Magnum Force.
Do make our day, and enjoy the show.

Thursday Jun 09, 2022
"What if....." we re-released our What if....? episode? Well, what if we did?
Audience! I am running a bit behind so the second part of our Dirty Harry analysis and review will be out on the 10th, or 11th at the very latest. However, I do like to have an episode out for you on Thursday, so here is our analysis and review of Disney + and Marvel Studio's What if? Why? Well, I'm going to try super duper hard to see the new Doctor Strange film this weekend and the What if series is on my mind. So now it will be on your mind.
....At least up until you hear our dulcet tones finishing up our review of the adventures of "Dirty" Harry Callahan later this weekend!
Thanks for your patience!
Enjoy

Max and Jason (and Anya) Watch Dirty Harry Pt 1
Thursday Jun 02, 2022
Thursday Jun 02, 2022
This week we begin our coverage of the "Dirty" Harry Callahan franchise, beginning with the eponymous Dirty Harry (1971). Sadly, we had a boat-load of technical difficulties which caused a stoppage in our recording, and leaves us only with a "part one" to give you. It is a longish "part one."
However there is some extra content on our Instagram page,

In addition to the extra content Max filmed, Anya always does a great job curating the page and providing great images from the films we cover. Enjoy our coverage of Dirty Harry. And don't forget to like and subscribe to our show.
Also, let us know what you want to see us review for future episodes.
Enjoy the show. Tune in next week to see how we answer the question at the end of this episode!

Enter The Dragon (re-release)
Friday May 27, 2022
Friday May 27, 2022
Hey, listeners, this week we are re-releasing our Enter the Dragon episode. Sorry we don't have a brand new episode about that bizarre police officer named "Dirty" Harry Callahan this week. There were some scheduling issues, and technological issues that just made getting a good episode out impossible, at least for our editor (which is Max).
We promise to have that new show up next week, along with some fun stuff on our instagram page.
In the mean time, enjoy our discussion about Bruce Lee's final film.
Until next week constant listeners!

M&J(&A)Watch: Last Night in Soho
Friday May 20, 2022
Friday May 20, 2022
Listeners, I'm sorry I'm a day late with this week's episode. I assure you it is worth the extra day of waiting on the edge of your car seat!
This week we tackle Edgar Wright's ghost story, Last Night in Soho. Ostensibly the film is about a young and talented woman who is practically obsessed with the 1960s, and who may possess something like the "shine." But is it also about something more? Last Night in Soho represents a more serious turn for Wright, a director known for his sharp witted, tightly edited action-comedies. Do Max and Jason (and Anya!) like this directional turn by Wright? Have a listen and find out.
Don't forget to subscribe and share the show with your friends.
Enjoy and we will see you next week!

Max and Jason Watch Stagecoach (re-release)
Thursday May 12, 2022
Thursday May 12, 2022
Hello, faithful listeners, we are re-releasing our analysis of Stagecoach in part because we just did a retrospective on the work of John Wayne. The other part is that Jason and Max are not always the best of planners!
In light of our last episode, we hope you will give this classic western a chance. Is it a John Wayne film? Is it a John Ford film? What do you think?
Also what do you think we should tackle next?
Enjoy the show, and we will be back next week, with a brand new episode on a piece of moving art we have not yet covered.

Max and Jason talk ”Best of John Wayne.”
Thursday May 05, 2022
Thursday May 05, 2022
We are trying something a bit different this week. In this week's episode we discuss a top 20 John Wayne films list, put together by Screen Rant (using IMDB scores). We debate the merits of the list and offer our own Wayne "best of" recommendations. Along the way we talk a lot about John Ford and Howard Hawks and a few other things besides.
Wayne certainly is a controversial figure, but he made a lot of excellent westerns and his work defined the genre for decades, and his work is certainly worth examining, and many of his films are still worth watching, discussing, criticizing and even appreciating.
Enjoy the show!
Here is the Screen Rant List that inspired our conversation.

This week on M&JWAM we discuss the unexpected success that was the 1990s X-Men: The Animated Series. We dive into the origins of the show, its heroic producer/champion and it surprisingly faithful attempt to hew pretty closely to the source material. We also talk about the Disney/Marvel decision to relaunch the show.
The conversation also derails into tangents -delightful I'm sure- about Greg Pak's amazing run on the Hulk among other comic booky things.
Enjoy show and let us know what you think.
